On Sunday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m., the Dream Lake Estates Ski Team and the ISU Ski team will be performing at Dream Lake, east of Huxley.
According to Huxley HERO member Stacey Noe, the Prairie Fest planning group had been trying to come up with something that would bring people out on Sunday, when they were contacted by a member of the Dream Lake Estates Ski Team about the possibility of a ski show.
"We thought it sounded like a great family friendly event, and something that would bring people out," she said.
ISU Waterski Team President Maggie Tierney said there are about 40 people on the team, 15 of whom compete in tournaments. Some have never been in a ski show, and some have been performing in ski shows for most of their lives.
"We mainly travel as a team to go to three-event tournaments, which focus solely on slalom, trick and jump," said Tierney.
The team plans to bring those skills to Huxley next week to provide an afternoon of entertainment to Prairie Fest goers.
"We'll have some course skiing, trick skiing and most definitely some jumping," said Tierney. "However, we're also throwing in some standard show tricks, such as pyramids and barefooting."
Tierney said members of the team are people who love to be on the water and are willing to work hard. And they have differing focuses and talents, from wakeboarding to show skiing to three-event competing.
The event is free to the public, though a free-will donation will be taken to help cover the cost of gas for the teams. To get to Dream Lake, head east on Oak Boulevard off of Highway 69 and follow the signs that will be placed along the way.
The Prairie Fest planners are excited to offer this new event.
"We invite everyone to come out early, if they would like, and pack a picnic lunch and enjoy an entertaining show filled with tricks, jumps and fast boats," said Noe.
