2. Town where you live: Maxwell
3. Where did you grow up? Colesburg, a small town in Northeast Iowa
4. Occupation: Insurance agent
5. What do you wish was (or had been) your occupation? Growing up, I wanted to be a nurse like my mom. I think I'd enjoy being an event planner or working in a greenhouse or floral shop.
6. What is your favorite TV Show? Grey's Anatomy
7. What type of music do you like to listen to? Just about anything but rap
8. If you could live in any other state, which would you live in and why? I've never really thought about it as I have not intentions of moving. Maybe Colorado, because I love the mountains. Someday I hope to be a "snowbird" and go somewhere warm in the winter.
9. What's your favorite season of the year? They all have their benefits. Spring would probably be my favorite. I love seeing everything turn green and the flowers coming to life.
10. What was your favorite decade and why? I'd have to say this one. Having kids and getting to watch them grow up is the greatest blessing. My kids are all at fun ages right now. They haven't hit the teenage years, so they don't totally hate their parents yet. That will be the next decade, so I'm going to enjoy it while I can.
11. What meal do you like best at suppertime? Anything I don't have to fix! Otherwise, either chicken parmesan or mini cheddar meatloaves.
12. What hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy most? I can usually be found shuttling my kids to their activities. When time allows, I enjoy working in my flower beds, attending ISU sporting events, reading and scrapbooking.
13. What's your favorite color and why? I don't really have a favorite color.
14. Would you rather live in a very old house with lots of character or a new house where everything worked perfectly? I like to tour old homes, but I prefer new.
15. What's the best book you've read in the past few years? I just went on vacation, so I was able to feed my reading habit. I read "The Choice" and "Nights in Rodanthe" by Nicholas Sparks, "Marley and Me" by John Grogan, "Sundays at Tiffany's" by James Patterson and "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. I love John Grisham books, and I'm anxious to read his new one, "The Associate." My favorite book would probably be "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham. It's a quick read and so funny that I cried. Not a typical Grisham novel.
16. What's your favorite breakfast cereal? Honey Nut Cheerios or Frosted Flakes
17. Who are the members of your family? Husband, Bryce; children, Drake, 12; Creighton, 10 and Hannah, 8
18. What's your favorite thing to eat with chocolate in it? Chocolate-dipped strawberries and peanut M&Ms
19. What was the best present you ever received as a child? Little Tikes kitchen set and an Easy Bake oven. My brother loved Easy Bake cakes, so he requested that I make them often.
20. Did you have a teacher that inspired you, and how? I'm not sure I've ever been "inspired" by one, but I have a few favorites. Dr. Neil Harl at Iowa State stands in a league of his own. The amount of knowledge he has is truly amazing.
21. What place in the world have you not visited, but would most like to visit? There are so many places I would love to visit. England, Australia and Dubai would probably top the list.
22. Did you ever learn to play a musical instrument? I played the flute, piccolo and organ.
23. Do you love waking up in the morning or hate waking up in the morning? I am not a morning person. I'd rather stay up late and sleep in.
24. What's one of your fondest childhood memories? I don't have one particular favorite memory. In general, growing up on a farm and just everything that goes with that - animals, 4-H projects and working outside as a family. Butchering chickens at 4 a.m. in a thunderstorm or getting chewed out for not properly holding the gate while sorting hogs was not particularly enjoyable. We kids were just sure it was some sort of child abuse, but those are the kind of stories that always surface at family functions and we can laugh about it now. I don't miss milking cows, but I wouldn't trade my childhood for anything.
25. What's one thing you like about this time of year? That spring is hopefully just around the corner.
