Meredith, who is a lifelong Iowa resident and has lived in Kelley since 1979, said she started the job on Jan. 20 and is still in training.
"I'm still learning all there is to be done," she said.
Learning a new aspect of accounting and working with the city council members to better the town of Kelley are the things Meredith said she enjoys most about the city clerk position.
The job is approximately 50 hours per month, and Meredith said she would also continue working in her current position at National Cash of Ames, where she does accounting and works with customers.
Meredith and her husband of 29 years, Tim, have three grown children. Two daughters will be completing their schooling in May. Tiffany will graduate from Drake Law School, and Lacey will graduate from DMACC as a Veterinary Technician. Son, TeJay, works for Electronic Engineering in Ames.
Meredith is also involved in the Kelley community as a first responder. Her desire to help people in trouble drove her to become a first responder in 1990. She has since become an EMT-B, which gives her the ability to help even more.
"I am truly amazed when you help someone you thought might not make it, but they survived and are still alive and walking around today because you were there in the difficult times," she said. "The volunteers in Story County are amazing people who give of their time and expect nothing in return...they are my inspiration to be the best I can be."
When Meredith is not working or performing her first-responder duties, she enjoys being outside in the garden, woodworking, reading, sewing, being with family and friends and spending time at the family's farm near Ledges State Park.
