CMB only scored four points in the first quarter and by halftime the Raiders found themselves in a 32-18 hole. The second half saw CMB revamped on offense, putting up 15 points in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth to cut into Montezuma's lead, but the Raiders were unable to make up enough ground in ending the season with a 7-15 record.
Free-throws turned out to be the deciding factor in the final outcome. CMB was solid as a team from the line in hitting 13 of 19 attempts, but the Raiders sent the Braves to the line 41 times and Montezuma capitalized on the free shots by making 29 of them.
"The game was very physical and anytime your opponent shoots 41 free throws it's tough to win," CMB head coach Henry Haupert said.
Junior Brittany Robinett had an outstanding all-around game in defeat for CMB. She put up 12 points and led the team in rebounds with nine, steals with six and assists with three.
"Brittany had her most solid game of the season," Haupert said. "(She) really came alive in the second half."
Jordan Maher paced CMB in scoring with 13 points and she added six rebounds and Amy Atwood added five points and six rebounds in the low post for the Raiders. Seniors Jill Johnson and Becca Holdren closed out their careers with productive outings as Johnson recorded five steals and two assists and Holdren scored nine points.
Deidra Lowry led Montezuma in scoring with 18 points. Jenna Durr added 17 for the Braves and Jessica Salfin finished with 16.
