Attendance at the Fawcett Family Aquatic Center is down about 10 percent so far this year because of the cooler weather last summer and early this summer, according to the Nevada Parks and Recreation director.
      Income from the pool was almost $189,000 for fiscal year 2009, while expenses were over $218,000. Tim Hansen, parks and rec director, reported to the Nevada City Council at their regular meeting Monday night that if temperatures were to rise, attendance numbers would also.
      The council accepted the resignation of Anita Westphal, a first responder, and terminated William Garland as a probationary fire fighter.
      Appointments for city boards that were approved were: Sharon Johnson, board of adjustment; Tom Haller and Walt McDonald, both council members, to the fire/EMS board; Carolyn Shaw, library board; Stuart Huse and Steve Shill, planning and zoning; Andy Kelly, council member, to the NEDC, until replaced; and Laura Kiesling, parks and recreation board. Nico Lochart and Glen Miller were reappointed to the parks and recreation board.
      The council approved the first reading of an ordinance establishing a no parking zone on the west side of Second Street, from M Avenue to N Avenue.
      The council approved the monetary transfers for the end fiscal year.
