GRIMES - The Nevada boys' golf team didn't get good enough rounds across the board to compete for a top-three spot at the Raccoon River Conference meet Monday at the Beaver Creek golf course.
The Cubs ended up fifth out of nine teams with an 18-hole score of 345. Jake Crowley had a phenomenal individual performance for Nevada in placing fourth to earn all-conference honors, but the Cubs were consistent enough as a team to hang with the top teams in the conference.
"We were guessing that we would give Carroll a run for second, but unfortunately we chose the wrong day to misfire as a group," Nevada head coach Ryan Brown said. "The difference for us today was that we did not take advantage of the scoreable holes. Every course has holes that present the opportunity for pars - if not birdies - and we didn't play those holes well at all. We hope we've gotten this out of our system as we approach sectionals."
Ballard won the title with a score of 310 while Carroll shot a 319 for second place, Adel-Desoto-Minburn was third with a 331 and Dallas Center-Grimes took fourth with a 336.
Crowley was outstanding on the day as he shot a 78, including a 37 on the front nine. His effort tied him with Ballard's Devin Leland for the third-lowest score, while the Bombers' Matt Greenfield and Taylor Eichinger tied for the lowest at 76, with Greenfield winning the playoff to take medalist honors.
"We were all very happy with Crowley's all-conference performance," Brown said.
Jordan Kieffer had the next-lowest score for Nevada with an 88 and Bryce Black shot an 89, while Tyler Olson and Nick Harvey each carded a 90.

Final team scores (18 holes): 1. Ballard 310, 2. Carroll 319, 3. Adel-Desoto-Minburn 331, 4. Dallas Center-Grimes 336, 5. Nevada 345, 6. Winterset 348, 7. Perry 355, 8. Carlisle 360, 9. Saydel 408

Nevada (345): Jake Crowley 78, Tyler Olson 90, Nick Harvey 90, Jordan Kieffer 88, Tyler Ellingson 93, Bryce Black 89
TOLEDO - Nevada had a strong showing at the Tama-Toledo Invitational Saturday in Toledo as the Cubs placed second out of seven scored teams.
Nevada shot a 339 over 18 holes to end up 10 strokes behind Waterloo Columbus's winning score. The Cubs ended up five strokes ahead of both Grinnell and HLV for the runner-up team score.
"For a team of one senior and five sophomores, I was pleased with our competitive experience," Nevada head coach Ryan Brown said. "We hope it pays off down the stretch."
Jake Crowley had a tremendous day for Nevada as he used a strong back nine to shoot a 78 and earn medalist honors. Tyler Olson ended up fifth overall with an 83 and Nick Harvey and Tyler Ellingson recorded an 88 and a 90 respectively for the Cubs.

Final team scores (18 holes): 1. Waterloo Columbus 329, 2. Nevada 339, 3. Grinnell 344, 4. HLV 344, 5. South Tama 350, 6. Benton-Van Horne 388, 7. North Tama 393

Nevada (339): Jake Crowley 78, Tyler Olson 83, Nick Harvey 88, Tyler Ellingson 90, Jordan Kieffer 93, Bryce Black 96

STATE CENTER - Nevada had a solid outing in a triangular meet with Adel-Desoto-Minburn and West Marshall May 5 at the Lincoln Valley golf course in State Center.
Nevada shot a 166 over nine holes to win the meet as ADM finished with a 173 and West Marshall shot a 183. The top four Cub golfers shot a 43 or lower and that proved to be enough to earn the win.
Jake Crowley led Nevada with a 39, putting him just one stroke behind medalist Wes Nordquist of ADM. Tyler Olson added a 41 for the Cubs, while Nick Harvey and Tyler Ellingson each shot a 43.

Final team scores (nine holes): Nevada 166, Adel-Desoto-Minburn 173, West Marshall 183

Nevada (166): Jake Crowley 39, Tyler Olson 41, Nick Harvey 43, Tyler Ellingson 43, Bryce Black 44, Micah Weigelt 44, Jordan Kieffer 47, Kyle Henry 47
