COLO - Author Brian Butko will be signing copies of his just released book, "Greetings from the Lincoln Highway: America's First Coast-to-Coast Road" at Niland's Café in Colo, on Saturday, June 25. The book signing will be held from 4-6 p.m.
Brian comments, "There were other transcontinental highways before, but none had the funding, signage, organization or popular support of the Lincoln Highway. This book includes hundreds of vintage photos and postcards from the 14 states the route traversed. Maps show the routings between 1913 and 1928 with close-ups of cities.
Best of all, it features quotes from memoirs and postcards some funny, many insightful. Everyone from Alice Ramsey (the first woman to drive cross-country) to Emily Post (her Etiquette book would come in 1922) to the author of "The Long, Long Trailer" wrote about their travels on the Lincoln Highway."
Butko's signing in Colo will be the only Iowa stop on his Pittsburg, Penn., to Cheyenne, Wyo., book signing tour. The book is hard cover and contains 288 pages, 351 color photos, 15 color maps and currently sells for $29.95. The publisher has advised that the price will increase to $39.95 July 1, 2005. A limited number of copies will be available at the book signing.
Niland's Café is located on the north side of Colo at 24 Lincoln Highway. The café will be providing free pop and coffee to anyone attending the event.
This event is sponsored by the Colo Development Group. For additional information call 877-234-2656.
