DMACC golfers open new season

Yes, the official 2009 golf season is underway, at least for the Des Moines Area Community Colllege teams who are teeing off down south.
In their first outing of the season, the Bears participated earlier this week in the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Lions Classic in Fort Smith, Ark.
In the women's division, seven teams battled and the Bears were fifth best at 757 on rounds of 377 and 380.
The champion of the women's division was Arkansas Tech University at 692.
Individually, the ladies tourney medalist shot 80-84.....164.
For DMACC, Sam Pingel was fifth at 86-85.....171; Jesse Krull 20th at 100-103.....203, Caitlin Peterson tied for 22nd at 106-119.....225 and Doni Gratham tied for 22nd at 115-110.....225.
The eight-team men's division was won by UA Fort Smith at 602.
DMACC finished eighth at 348-339.....687.
Individually, the medalist shot 70-72.....142.
For DMACC, Brad Lorenz was 26th at 84-82.....166, Jake Anderson 28th at 82-86.....168, Scott Harvey 32nd at 87-85.....172, Scott Montgomery 38th at 95-86.....181 and Nick Davidson 42nd at 97-93.....190.
