Innovative crop techniques is a primary focus for Monsanto Company, but it's only part of the reason the St. Louis-based company showcased its offerings at the Farm Progress Show.
"The first highlight is the opportunity for us to visit with our customers," said U.S. Soybean Traits Marketing Lead Dion McBay.
McBay noted Monsanto's presence in Boone County -- the DeKalb processing plant located on U.S. Highway 17. With Monsanto having an established clientele throughout the county, McBay said there was no better place to share product information and advances in agricultural science.
Two advances in the upcoming year that Monsanto is planning to launch are Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans and YieldGard VY Triple Pro, which assists farmers with corn production.
McBay elaborated on the first of the two products expected to hit the market in spring 2009.
"It's the next generation soybean trait that delivers efficient and effective weed control and top-end yield potential," he said. "It will deliver higher yields on the Iowa soybean acre."
While describing YieldGard VT Triple Pro, McBay said the product will be beneficial with SmartStax, which is a type of corn technology that fends off pesticides.
"It's the next generation insect protection in corn that offers a second means of control for above-ground insect pests," McBay said. "It sets the stage for SmartStax corn technology to be launched in 2010."
With SmartStax's ability to deliver high-end weed control and insect control, he said he expects the product to assist farmers with the hopes of increasing corn productivity.
As McBay had the chance to meet with potential clients during the course of the Farm Progress Show, he said it was beneficial to the company, as it allowed them to give interested agriculturalists a glimpse of future technologies.
"We believe it's a tremendous opportunity to interface with our customers and to put the best face of Monsanto and agriculture forward."
