American Fence employees Omar Herrera (at left) and Leo Salazar (at right) begin placing fence posts for the security fence at the Farm Progress Show site. The contractors will complete 2,000 feet of fencing per day in order to finish the project, early next week.
After a mix-up with the materials ordered to install the security fence at the Farm Progress Show site, things are finally back on track according to Nick Kuhn, project manager for the site development with Foth Infrastructure and Environment.
"We've got the original contractor back on site and we'll have the fence installed by Monday," Kuhn said.
American Fence of Des Moines was contracted to install the security fence, which Kuhn said will require approximately 8,000 feet. However, due to an unresponsive supplier, 6,800 feet of fence was still needed to complete the project. Kuhn said different materials were located and delivered to the Farm Progress Show location on Thursday afternoon and the contractors got busy Friday afternoon.
"We're pleased," Kuhn said. "We had four crews on site and they're hoping to complete 2,000 feet per day."
Darrel Rensink, president of the Central Iowa Expo Committee, said the delay in the project had to be addressed immediately.
"It's absolutely mandatory that the fence goes up," Rensink said. "It was either finding a new contractor or no fence and I wasn't willing to explore that option."
Rensink said work will continue and the project will progress over the weekend until it is completed.
"We're going to get the fence installed," he said.
Fortunately for the contractors, the weather is supposed to cooperate. According to weather.com, Sunday will be sunny with a high of 82 degrees, with a low of 59 degrees. Almost an identical forecast is expected on Monday.
"Everything is back on track," Kuhn said.
