"It's kind of a celebration of the Lincoln Highway, the nation's first hard surface road that went coast to coast," said Barbara Moore, member of the association. "It will give people a chance to see some things along the highway that have been done."
The tour is starting in Clinton this Friday, and driving all the way through Iowa to end in Honey Creek Sunday night.
"We have a stop in just about every county along the highway except for Carroll County, because we have no representative there," said Jeff LaFollette, state director of the association.
Boone will serve as the dinner stop Saturday night. Drivers will be eating at the Golden Corral restaurant around 6 p.m. So far more than 50 cars and 100 people have signed up for the motor tour.
"Our goal is to go down as many main streets as we can, since Lincoln Highway was the Main Street of America," Moore said.
Not only are drivers going to drive down memory lane, but they will do so in cars from memory lane. Some drivers have said they will be bringing a 1930 Model A Ford, a 1929 Town Town Sedan, a 1964 Ford Fairlane, and a 1950 Chevrolet coupe.
Drivers who wish to register for the trip can do so even in the middle of the trip, as LaFollete will have registration forms with him.
"Those who register get a goodie bag, and people who aren't members of the association pay a slightly higher fee, but get a free year of membership with their registration," he said.
The idea for the tour came to LaFollette several years ago.
"I chaired some auto tours in Illinois in the late 90s, and when I became involved with the Lincoln Highway Association in 2003, I started to do some planning," he said. "The idea's been floating around for three or four years, but we're finally doing it."
