Boone coach Rick Davis said that errors, three of them, were the main culprit in his team's loss.
"It was the first time that we kicked the ball around in critical situations. Carroll was errorless, which means we did not put enough pressure on them," he said.
The Toreadors actually outhit their rival, 13-8, but those errors at the wrong time hurt.
Pitchers Mike Eckhart and Damon Moran allowed just one earned run each.
Coach Davis said, "We were not sharp on the hill and pitched behind in the count which gave their hitters an edge. Sometimes you come to the park and don't have your good stuff. Damon Moran came in and did a good job in relief and gave us a chance to win."
Eckhart allowed four of the hits and seven of the runs but, again, just one of those runs was earned. He walked four and struckout one while facing 18 batters.
Moran faced 16 hitters. He allowed four hits with one unearned run. He had no walks and one strikeout.
Talking about his team's offense, coach Davis said, "We hit the ball hard at times but couldn't put two hits together late and that was the difference in the game. Anderson, Ely, Frank, Eckhart and Sunstrom had a good night at the plate with multiple hits. We can hit most anyone when we focus at the plate and hit with a purpose."
Nick Anderson had three hits, Josh Frank, Cris Ely, Tyler Sunstrom and Eckhart two hits and Andrew Burge and Blane Reutter one hit each.
Ely and Sunstrom socked doubles and Anderson had three runs batted in. Eckhart knocked home two runs while Sunstrom and Frank also had RBI.
Coach Davis concluded, "We will get better, this is a good team and they will improve even after taking a setback."
