On October 25, the Boone County Historical Society and a number of statewide organizations will re-enact the October 29, 1908 Boone Suffrage Parade.

The 1908 parade was the first and only suffrage parade ever held in Iowa and one of the first in the US. An organizational meeting for persons interested in participating in the planning and execution of the suffrage parade re-enactment will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday March 20 at the Boone County Historical Center, 602 Story Street in Boone.

Anyone in Central Iowa who is interested in women's history, politics, or suffrage, is invited to attend.

"Although you do not need to attend the meeting to participate," Suzanne Caswell, one of the event's organizers said, "we would like to have as many people as possible at the meeting.

The re-enactment celebrates an important event in Boone and Iowa history, and it will bring many people to the city on October 25. We will need many volunteers to help us bring the event off," she said.
