Last week, Sept. 14 -18, was homecoming week for the Algona Bulldogs. The theme was "Lei Out the Lynx."
Friday, Sept. 18, the coronation took place in the gym. Last year's queen, Annie Klepper, was in attendance. However, last year's king, Justin Zweifel, could not attend as he was participating in a rodeo. The crowns this year were awarded to Heidi Behnkendorf and Chad Rutledge.
Friday night the boys battled it out on the field against the Webster City Lynx. After 48 minutes of playing time, the guys lost 35-6. After the game, the dance began in the high school commons.
On Wednesday, the boys battled in muscle volleyball and the girls fought hard out on the football field in powder puff football. The action began at 7 p.m. in the gym with muscle volleyball. The seniors dominated and took the crown by beating the juniors in the championship game. The team consisted of Travis Lenz, Collin Fett, Brady Collison, Alex Hagg, Nyle Larsen, Brad Hoskins, Chad Rutledge and Alex Kading.
After the final game ended, the girls took the football field for powder puff football. The junior class won this competition. The girls on the team were Ashley Norland, Jenni Weaver, Carly Sansone, Abby Foertsch, Megan Gerhardt, Kari Simpson, Missy Zadow, Courtney Schneider, Codi Albertson, Emily Loken, Amber Hentges, AnnaLise Manske, Emily Grandgenett and Nicole Person.
The students from Algona High spent a lot of time working on the hallways and floats for homecoming. The halls were judged and the seniors came out on top. During the homecoming parade on Friday afternoon, many floats were displayed including football, volleyball, and the class floats. The sophomores won the float contest.
Throughout the week, the students dressed up for each day. They could compete for being voted the best dressed for that day.
Monday was PJ day and senior Hannah Limbaugh and junior Brittany Vaske were named the best dressed. Tuesday was status day. Seniors Alynnia Freeburg and Collin Fett won. The next day, generation day, was won by seniors David Baxter, Collin Fett and Brandon Keller. Thursday was Hawaiian day. Seniors Brady Collison, Alynnia Freeburg, Tessa Thompsonand Kelsey Varvel were named best dressed for Thursday. For red and black day, brothers Clay and Brady Collison won.
