Contributed photo<br> The neglected and overgrown flowerbed at the base of the Daley Park sign adjacent to Wilder Boulevard has been granted a new lease on life. This all came about last summer when Joe Jurasic was out jogging in west Ames and just happened to run across a flower garden that appeared to need some TLC. After returning home, he asked his wife, Karen, if she wanted to take on the joint responsibility. The rest is history. After an extensive clean- up last fall and more in the spring, the Jurasics planted Sundial Mix portulaca, Cooler Mix vinca, Liberty Mix snapdragon and Disco Mix marigold. In addition, they are planting four dozen Bright Yellow daffodils for next spring.

Ames Parks and Recreation Department's Adopt a Flower Garden program marks its 14th season this year. From the program's introduction in 1995, it has grown to include more than 50 different park flower gardens throughout Ames. Volunteers design, plant and maintain the gardens with flowers and plants donated by Holub Garden and Greenhouses. Alan Thompson, Parks and Recreation Department, coordinates the program.
