Growing up in the home of Iowa State, Nesbitt, a 5-foot-7 point guard, announced Friday she's accepting a scholarship offer to play at Iowa.
"I know it's weird that I'm going to Iowa when I live in Ames," Nesbitt said with a laugh. "I'm really excited. It was the best opportunity and something I couldn't pass up. I'm really happy to be going to Iowa; I think it will be a great experience for me."
The Iowa coaching staff initiated contact a few weeks ago, inquiring if Nesbitt would have any interest. Nesbitt took a visit to Iowa City and was then offered a scholarship a week ago.
After thinking about it for a week, Nesbitt pulled the trigger Friday. She chose the Hawkeyes over Drake, Creighton and Boise State
"When I went for my visit, I loved the campus and really got to know the coaching staff and they were amazing," Nesbitt said. "I also know some of the players there that I've played with before so that's exciting. It was really sweet to get an offer from Iowa; this is a big time opportunity."
Nesbitt can now focus on her senior season. The Little Cyclones will be considered among the top teams in Class 4A, returning most of their personnel from last year's 16-7 squad.
"I won't have to worry about anything now but playing," Nesbitt said.
Nesbitt averaged 14.7 points and 4.8 assists per game a year ago. The Little Cyclones are 52-16 in Nesbitt's three years running the offense.
