The Engineering Leadership Program aims to broaden the expertise of engineering students in social and policy areas and better prepare them for leadership roles in their careers. The money will pay for scholarships, program development and student leadership activities, according to the ISU Foundation.
ISU and 3M have had a long-term partnership that has included 3M staff serving as professional mentors to the program's scholars and speakers for leadership seminars. The company currently employs about 350 graduates of the ISU College of Engineering, according to the ISU Foundation.
The 3M Corporation, of St. Paul, Minn., is scheduled to receive the ISU Foundation's Order of the Knoll Corporate and Foundation Award during a ceremony today on the ISU campus. The award recognizes "outstanding generosity to the university by a corporation or foundation," according to ISU.
By ISU numbers, the 3M Corporation has provided more than $2.7 million in support to the university through gifts, grants and employee contributions.
