Two Iowa State University football players were arrested Wednesday in connection with a fight at a Campustown bar Saturday night.
Greg Coleman Jr., 20, 2008 Sunset Dr., and Durrell D. Williams, 19, 1209 Willow Anderson, are accused of beating up Nathan Johnson, an ISU junior in civil engineering from Clinton, while in line for the bathroom at Club Element, 2401 Chamberlain St., Ames police said.
Coleman was also cited for being on premises of a bar under age, which carries a $100 fine and $50 in court costs.
Police records state that Williams and Coleman assaulted "without justification" Johnson after they tried to push their way through the line for the bathroom.
Coleman had pushed Johnson on the ground. When Johnson got back up, Williams hit him and broke bones in near his eye. He was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for treatment.
Coleman was charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor which carries a $500, if convicted. He is being held on a $500 bond at the jail as well.
Williams was charged with assault causing serious injury, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine, if convicted. He is being held on a $12,000 bond at the Story County Jail in Nevada.
Before coming to Iowa State, Coleman was convicted in 2003 for assaulting an Iowa City police officer.
