The American Diabetes Association, wants to know if you’re B.A.D. enough to make a difference in the life of 23 million people of ALL ages affected by ALL types of diabetes? Rip Rose, a former Easy Rider Magazine photo journalist and a person affected by diabetes, had a dream to rally the motorcycle nation to fight diabetes. Rip passed away in 2000, but his legacy lives on through Rip’s B.A.D. (Bikers Against Diabetes) Ride, as it makes it’s way across the United States. Rips B.A.D. Ride is coming to Central Iowa, for our inaugural event, Saturday, September 27th, 2008 at the Central Iowa Expo grounds in Boone (www.centraliowaexpo.com).
St. Louis, MO is holding their 2nd annual event on Saturday, September 20th, just one week prior to the Central Iowa Inaugural event. We currently have a challenge for all those in Iowa—If we can raise more money for our IOWA B.A.D. Ride event than St. Louis raised for their event, the St. Louis Regional Executive Director must kiss a pig, on stage, for all to see. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know that not only are you a part of raising awareness and funds for diabetes research, but that you were part of making a “big city slicker” kiss a pig???
There will be five different start sites in central Iowa for bikers to converge upon the morning of the event. The Main Gate in East Des Moines, Rookies Bar and Grill south of 63rd and Park, the Garage in Cobblestone Park 86th and Hickman,Chips Rotosserie*Bar*Bakery located at 2502 SE Tones Drive in Ankeny,and our Presenting Sponsor, Zylstra Harley Davidson/Buell. After gathering at the start sites, groups of riders will ride to the Central Iowa Expo grounds for the day’s events consisting of a bike show, silent auction, bike games, kids activities, lunch and entertainment. Non riders, and riders alike, all bikes and vehicles, are also welcome to show up at the Expo grounds the day of the event without participating in the ride to the Central Iowa Expo.
