Stash the Trash is just around the corner

OK, here's the deal. Stash the Trash is less than a month away. Sure it looks like winter now. Just wait. If history is any indication, the day promises to be cold, wet and uncomfortable. But the snow will have melted and everything will be brown and soggy. Perfect for finding trash.

Stash the Trash, the annual community cleanup, will be March 29. Trash central will be the parking lot of Reiman Gardens, where supplies including bags and rubber gloves can be collected by those who need them before heading out.

Friends, neighbors, church groups, service clubs or individuals are all invited to pick a location from the list printed here and do your part to pick up litter.

Trash collected by volunteers may be brought back to Reiman Gardens, where Chitty Garbage Service will have large dumpsters. Please, no household trash. This is not a chance to clean out your basement.

We'll have food and soft drinks for participants back at the drop-off site. And we'll try to celebrate our success.

Stash the Trash will once again partner with Veishea Community Service Day this year. Students from the Iowa State University campus will be engaged in several other community service projects that day, too.

Check out the Veishea Web site, www.veishe.iastate.edu, for all the activities. There you also will find a link to a signup program. Scroll down the front page of the Veishea Web site to where the VEISHEA Large Scale Community Service Co-Chairs are listed. Just below that you'll find a link to Sign Up Online. Go there.

You will need to fill out all information on the form that pops up, including the age of the youngest person with your group. When you plug in an age, the list of Veishea projects, and Stash the Trash sites, will come up automatically. From here, take your pick.

If you have questions, please call Dave Kraemer at The Tribune, 232-2160.
